Topographic Surveys A topographic survey is an essential start for any planned development of an area. All ground features will be accurately mapped in three dimensions to provide a scaled plan to the requirements of the client. A survey may vary from, for example, a large scale at 1:1250 or 1:2500 for the purposes of locating a solar panel farm to a small scale of 1:100 for a single dwelling development. With our reflectorless survey instrument we can gain with ease ridge and eave heights of buildings, structure heights, overhead cables, tree heights and inaccessible detail such as neighbouring private properties, overlooking windows or bridge structures. With a variety of survey equipment we will endeavour to locate all information that is required for each individual site. All surveys can be output in a number of formats to suit the client. Where the client has their own specific coding and layering system these will be used. All data can be shown in .DWG, .DXF, .PDF, MX Genio Moss or XYZ text listing. All surveys can be output in 2D or 3D format. Benchmark Surveys uses Trimble total stations and Topcon GPS equipment for topographic surveys. The variety of equipment we use gives us the flexibility to carry out surveys on a local grid / local datum basis or tied to Ordnance datum via conventional benchmarks or more usually now tied to Ordnance Survey in coordination and level by GPS fix. For large scale surveys a scale factor can be applied to the survey data or a factor of 1 can be used. Volumetric and Settlement Surveys With a surveying background in the quarrying industry Benchmark Surveys has a wealth of experience carrying out quarry and landfill surveys. Many old workings have been turned into a landfill in the past. We have the knowledge of the requirements of all aspects of land survey in quarrying from updating scaled plans and tip sections to carrying out reserve surveys locating drilled boreholes and trial pits to establish mineral depths over vast areas. We also carry out stockpile surveys in quarries and depots for auditing purposes. Landfill surveys are carried out for our clients to establish volumes of fill and remaining void. We also carry out engineering surveying work for capping and restoration. Closed landfills are surveyed on an annual basis to monitor settlement. Engineering Surveys Benchmark Surveys will carry out setting out work for projects such as building foundation work to restoration level schemes. We also carry out monitoring surveys on structures that are or might suffer from movement. This is done using various methods and time periods to suit the client’s needs. Monitoring work can be for anyone from engineering firms to Insurance companies.
